We promise our Christmas show won't be stale.

It is believed that the first Nativity Play was in 1223 and performed by St. Francis Assisi and his followers. For those who celebrate Christmas, the Nativity Play or Christmas Pageant as it's also known, is a childhood custom that teaches the bible story of Jesus' birth . Watching the story play out or participating on stage can be an annual tradition.

Starting Dec 1, 2016, Town Hall Theatre will bring to life a classic, delightful comedy that is adapted from the best-selling Young Adult book, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson.

The central characters are The Herdmans, "the worst kids in the history of the world." They lie, steal, smoke cigars, swear, and hit little kids. No one is prepared when this outlaw family invades church one Sunday and decides to take over the annual Christmas pageant.

None of the Herdmans has ever heard the Christmas story before. Their interpretation of the tale -- the Wise Men are a bunch of dirty spies and Herod needs a good beating -- has a lot of people up in arms. But it will make this year's pageant the most unusual anyone has seen and, just possibly, the best one ever.

According to Director, Lynda Divito, "The Herdman's will remind us that Christmas is not just a date on the calendar that requires a schedule of meaningless tasks to unfold, but that it is a time for change, acceptance and inclusion. It is a time to reflect on all the beauty that surrounds us and the love we give and receive. It is a time to soak in the good fortune that has been bestowed upon all of us. It is a time for peace."

If you’ve been doing a traditional Christmas pageant for a long time and find that it’s getting stale, then you might want to try Town Hall Theatre's, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever for a change!
