Submissions for S.N.A.P. Festival

Check back in April 2024 for 2024-2025 submission deadlines

Town Hall Theatre is looking for full-length, never-produced plays from playwrights living and working in the 9 Bay Area counties for a workshop/performance opportunity. Plays that are in the latter stages of the creation process are ideal. Town Hall Theatre's New Voices series is especially aiming to give opportunities to playwrights from under-produced backgrounds. Playwrights receive a $1000 stipend plus 10% of ticket sales.

Selected plays that meet the following criteria will receive 4 public "scaled down" performances (see below). Each performance will include a guided talkback to get constructive audience feedback.

Criteria

  • Prefer 90-min or less, but not a must

  • Up to 4 characters is ideal

  • Must have limited technical requirements

  • Must never have been publicly produced (Zoom readings or staged readings okay)

  • Playwrights must currently live in Contra Costa, Alameda, Santa Clara, San Mateo, San Francisco, Marin, Sonoma, Napa, or Solano Counties.

  • Particular consideration will be given to Playwrights from historically disenfranchised backgrounds, although all playwrights are welcome to submit.

  • Particular consideration will be given to plays that address current, relevant topics to our community (i.e. the Lamorinda community and/or larger Bay Area community).

  • Plays that are in the final stages of the creation process but are still being revised or worked on are welcome.

  • Please only submit one play per playwright.

  • The production is reduced to simplified elements so that the playwrights work and intention is highlighted

  • Simplified technical elements (i.e. few light looks, simplified sound cues, reduced costumes)

  • Three-week rehearsal period (not including pre-production work playwright does with a Town Hall provided director and dramaturg)

  • Simplified blocking

  • Actors may perform with scripts in hand to facilitate script revisions made by the playwright

  • Dramaturg or other facilitator leads talkback in a manner that gives the playwright constructive feedback for future revisions to the work

  • Town Hall will invite representatives of producing companies around the Bay Area to attend productions.
