Hiring Policy
Our goal is to have the staff, board, and teaching artist pool of Town Hall Theatre reflect the ever changing diversity of Contra Costa County. One way we aim to reach that goal is by using the Diverse Slate Approach in hiring candidates for staff positions. This means that we prioritize hiring after having interviewed candidates in at least 3 historically underrepresented categories. These categories are:

Booth Technician

$18/hour, no benefits, paid sick/vacation time

Town Hall Theatre seeks a reliable and collaborative Booth Technician to operate lighting and sound for performances, classes, rentals, and community events. This position plays a vital role in supporting artists, teaching artists, designers, and community partners by ensuring each event is technically smooth, welcoming, and thoughtfully executed. The ideal candidate values collaboration, clear communication, and helping create a safe, positive environment for all who enter our space.
This is a part-time (20 hours a week), on-site position that requires regular evening and weekend hours during performances and events.

Lighting & Sound Operations
Set up, operate, and strike lighting and sound systems for classes, rentals, and special events
Run lighting and sound cues during live performances and events
Conduct sound checks, mic placement, and playback for performers, speakers, and musicians
Monitor and adjust levels and cues in real time to support performers and audiences
Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with renters and front-of-house staff
Serve as a calm, professional point of contact in the booth during performances
Equipment, Space & Safety
Maintain proper use and care of lighting and sound equipment
Identify, troubleshoot, and report technical issues in a timely manner
Support safe use of the booth and backstage areas, following Town Hall Theatre policies and procedures
Additional Duties
Facilitate load-ins and load-outs as needed
Support visiting artists and rental clients with basic technical needs

Required Experience:
Prior experience running lighting and sound for live performance or events
Working knowledge of lighting boards, sound boards, microphones, and playback systems
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to remain calm under pressure
Availability for evenings and weekends
Commitment to creating a welcoming, inclusive environment for artists and audiences
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This role requires regular evening and weekend availability, especially during performance runs and special events.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work at heights.
Work is performed in a historic theatre environment, with occasional exposure to dust, paint, and construction materials.
A combination of on-your-feet event work and computer-based administrative tasks is essential to this role.

Lead Teaching Artist

Town Hall Education is hiring Teaching Artists for our 25/26 season.
Town Hall Education is the education department at Town Hall Theatre Company in Lafayette. THEd is a process-based program committed to serving students from preschool age through adulthood. Our core values lie in student empowerment and building community, connection, empathy, trust, and collaboration. THEd provides onsite programming for PreK-adult including skill classes, Youth Stage performance classes, and short-form programming. THEd additionally provides Residency programming to similarly focused community partners to bring after-school, in-school, and community focused programming to the Lamorinda community and East Bay Area.
Teaching Artists report to the Director of Education.

Create and implement a lesson plan that meets age appropriate goals and developmental milestones.
Lead a safe, inclusive, and process-based classroom built to create learning opportunities that specifically draw upon the Developmental Focus outlined for their program.
Participate in Professional Development and Staff DEIJ Trainings (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice) throughout the year.
Attend any and all meetings arranged by the Education Team, including production meetings, one-on-one check ins, and other program specific meetings.
Maintain positive parent-teacher relationships.

Minimum 2 years experience teaching children aged pre-k through high school. Experience and/or current practice in one or more of the following disciplines: theatre; playwriting; directing; vocal and instrumental performance; dance or movement performance; set, costume, or lighting design.
Transportation a bonus, but not required. Town Hall Theatre is BART accessible from the Lafayette station (15 minute walk).

No previous experience required except a passion for youth education. Interest and/or current practice in one or more of the following disciplines: theatre; playwriting; directing; vocal and instrumental performance; dance or movement performance; set, costume, or lighting design.
